Shortly after we moved to “the country” (actual country residents would probably dispute that our golf course house is really “the country…”), I discovered The Farm on Central, which changed my life in many ways… not least of which by teaching me what real, local and organically grown fruits and vegetables actually tasted like and how they made me feel.
I initially interviewed the Farm’s Michael and Savannah Kilpatrick last year about what life was like as an organic farmer in 2024. But the more I read their emails and blog posts about their life’s work, the more I realized that the “secret sauce” behind such amazing produce included hard work and care, of course, but also soil!
In an era where significant amounts of American produce is bathed in preservative chemicals, stripped of all nutrients and coated in pesticides, and where “big food” touts hydroponic, genetically modified and even lab-grown fruit and veggies as somehow superior to traditionally grown crops, I knew I needed to help spread the word.
Today’s podcast is a fun and highly informative discussion with this gifted couple about the importance of soil in growing the kind of food our bodies truly want and need. After you listen, I promise you’ll never look at the produce aisle in your local big box grocery store the same again.
