Top movies that promote Catholic or Christian values with Father Jacob -

A scene from one of Father Jacob’s recommendations, 2006 Toronto Film Festival People’s Choice Award winner Bella.

At Father Jacob’s great suggestion, we decided it might be fun to share some of our favorite movies with listeners. But not just any old movies - he added the challenge of movies that are either Catholic or Christian at their core, or even secular movies that promote Catholic or Christian values.

Interestingly, we were scheduled to record this podcast on the very day and at the very hour that our new Pope was named, so in today’s episode, we briefly cover that topic first and offer a prayer in support of Pope Leo XIV. But afterwards, we turn to the planned topic, discussing everything from why movies are a powerful art form for illustrating and promoting faith to the reasoning behind each of our choices.

Preparing for this interview was a learning moment for me, as I struggled to find a link to Christian principles in most of the movies I have watched (though, to be fair, as a writer, I don’t watch a ton of movies or TV, as I am much more inclined to read!), but luckily, I came up with a few solid ideas.

You’ll likely be familiar with many of the films on my list, but I highly recommend watching those on Father Jacob’s first… which I have listed along with mine (his have an “FJ” after the name), with links below. At least, that’s what I’ll be doing in the near future!
